Fast chargers are chargers that are capable of charging from 7kW to 22kW. They can charge the typical Electric Vehicle in around eight hours, depending on the size of the battery. While the 22kW fast chargers are quicker, they require a 3-phase connection which is not usually found in the average domestic property.

Our domestic fast chargers range from 7kW to 22kW, which can fully charge your EV in as little as 4 hours. Please refer to your EV manufacturers guidelines.

A smart charger is a charger that enables you to connect to the internet and take advantage of features which help you manage your charger and tariff. Most have features which allow you to lock you charger and so others cannot use it, most will allow you to monitor how much energy you have used and from what source, they will also allow you to set timers and so you can make the most of cheap electricity.

<strong>Tethered </strong>– this type of charger has the cable permanently attached. A tethered charger is usually much more convenient as you can just park up of a night and plug in. As the cable is permanently attached there is no way you can lose the cable. The downside is that tethered cable cannot be upgraded if needed.

<strong>Untethered</strong> – this type of charger usually looks neater as the cable can be stored away in your vehicle or home. Untethered cables can be upgraded without the need for a new charging point. Untethered cables are usually a little cheaper too.

<strong>Summary</strong> – if you want to just plug straight in when you return home from a hard day’s work, I would probably recommend a tethered cable. If however you don’t like the look of cables outside your home, I would consider an untethered charger.

The cost will vary depending upon your energy supplier, the tariff you are on and the size of your EV’s battery.

To calculate how much a full charge will cost you, multiply the price of your energy in kWh by the battery size. For example, let’s say your tariff rate is 10p per kWh and your EV has a 50kWh battery then the calculation would be 0.10 x 50 which would give you a full charge at a cost of £5.

Every electric vehicle is different and the time it takes to charge each vehicle varies depending upon the make, model, battery size and the speed of the charging point. The time it takes to charger your EV can be as quick as 30 minutes for some models, and for others can be over 12 hours.

For example, a car with a 60kWh battery takes around 8 hours to charge from empty to full with a 7kW charger. For many EV’s you can add up to 100 miles of range in under 35 minutes with a 50kW rapid charger. Generally speaking the bigger your car batter and the slower the charging point the longer it will take to charge.

This will depend upon your tariff but generally speaking charging overnight is more cost effective than charging of a day. Please refer to your energy tariff for the cost per kWh during the day and compare that to the cost per kWh during the night.

This answer to this depends on how much the 2 vehicles are used. Say for instance both cars have a daily commute of 20 miles, then no one charger is more than enough. However, if both cars are completing longer daily journeys of say 60+ then I would it may be beneficial.
